Aim: To encourage members of society in Phuket to identify problems and challenges and to devise possible solutions that might be carried out with the help of the Phuket Community Foundation (PCF).
We want the community to be involved in our work, to tell us what is needed, and to tell us how they believe those needs can realistically be met.
Types of challenges: The PCF will consider challenges that fall under the following headings:
• Poverty alleviation
• Education (of both children and adults)
• Art and Culture
• Architectural and Historical Heritage
• Public Safety
• Public Health
• Environment
• Others that do not fall into the categories above but which the board see as having particular merit |
Parameters: Funding for the PCF is growing, but is still not a very large amount. In any case, we do not believe that throwing money at a problem is usually the best solution. What we are looking for is ideas that will involve people who are willing to give their time and expertise or who are willing to donate materials or funds to buy materials in order to achieve a solution to a particular challenge.
Criteria: We are looking for innovative ideas that can improve society by involving people in such a way that everyone wins.
Competition Entrants: The competition is open to anyone living in Phuket, regardless of age or nationality.
Prizes: The winners will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to another part of Thailand to observe the workings of a successful charity project, in the hope that they will bring this knowledge back to Phuket to help the PCF achieve its aims.
Deadline: The deadline for entries is October 31. We expect to announce the winners publicly within two weeks of that date.
